Now that the new county cricket season is up and running we want to take a moment to say a big thank-you to everyone already signed up as members of The Rey.

You can truly call yourselves ‘founder members’, and we will not forget those of you who chose to subscribe when we were just starting out.

Our ‘community’ of subscribers is already a significant one, and that is so exciting for us.

We hope, of course, that The Rey will continue to attract very many more new subscribers and – as the 2026 season takes shape – that you all come to rely on us for providing informed and intelligent commentary on how Surrey’s teams are faring.

We have been busy building the site’s magazine-style content ‘base’ during the two months leading up to this season, but the regularity of new posts will obviously increase now we are into live cricket.

So look out for all that, and please let us know your feedback. Email mark@therey.news and we will endeavour to reply to all your comments and queries.

We are committed to making The Rey the go-to website for all things Surrey cricket and it is worth stressing again here that we are fully independent of Surrey CCC – although we greatly value our relationships with everyone at the club.

Surrey’s ongoing support is valued, too, and that includes making available to us up-to-date photography of the men’s and women’s team which helps to present the site in the most professional and attractive fashion possible.

As this season progresses you will also read and listen to the views and opinions of Surrey’s players and staff – as well as our own considered analysis and reporting.

We are proud to be part of a rapidly-growing CounterPress Network of sports websites – and particularly proud that we have quickly established ourselves as the leading county cricket site in terms of numbers of subscribers.

But, then again, that is perhaps not a surprise given the enormous stature and reputation of the cricket club we are covering… Come On The Rey!

If you scroll down to the bottom of our pages you will see that The Rey is one of 16 (soon to be 17) new websites dedicated to covering a county cricket club, besides being part of an even larger network.

Launched by Sam Morshead, a former digital editor of The Cricketer, in 2024, CounterPress is filling the gap for quality sports journalism left by the demise of local and regional media in the past decade or so.

And CounterPress is a network still growing… rapidly! An app is on its way for all member sites, together with podcast functionality. The Rey, and our sister sites, will only improve and develop in the months and years ahead.

So thanks again for being part of it all from a very early stage. Here’s to the future.
