Dan Lawrence's appointment as England Lions captain continues a year to remember

Lawrence was Surrey's stand-out performer of the season, scoring 982 runs at an average of 65.46 from his ten Rothesay County Championship appearances, and also winning a recall to England's Test team for the late-summer series against Pakistan.

Now the 29-year-old has been chosen to captain England Lions next month in a five-match series against West Indies A in St Kitts and Nevis.

It is a clear sign that the England management regard Lawrence as someone capable of taking on further leadership roles at international level should he continue to hold down a place as a batsman.
