I have got to know Gareth Batty extremely well over his 21 years at Surrey, and he is a proper club legend.

As player, captain and as head coach his passion and competitive spirit has shone so brightly and has never dimmed.

I will miss him but have no doubt he will be a success too at Chennai Super Kings, and I am sure everyone who supports Surrey Cricket will want to thank Gareth for all he has done for the club.

And perhaps, when the dust has settled on his departure to India and the IPL, the biggest part of his huge legacy - alongside the three successive County Championship titles as head coach and the many successes as a player (and the 500+ wickets) will be the way he held the dressing room together following the awful tragedy of Tom Maynard's death in 2012.
