Surrey's frustrations at the bad weather interruptions that almost certainly cost them victory against Hampshire can be tempered by memories of Dan Lawrence's batting brilliance.
Lawrence became only the second player in County Championship history, after Graeme Hick in 1990, to score both a double hundred and a hundred at better than a run a ball in the same match.
His extraordinary strokeplay, as he hit 218 from 190 balls in the first innings and then 101 from just 64 deliveries in the second, meant that Surrey had two chances to force a win in the three days' playing time that rain and bad light allowed them.
