Surrey's players now have almost three weeks to digest the lessons they will hopefully learn from a sobering innings defeat against Yorkshire at Headingley.

Having won the toss and decided to bowl first in their sixth Rothesay County Championship fixture of the campaign, Rory Burns' team were comprehensively outplayed across all three and a half days of the match.

The defeat, by an innings and 127 runs, was Surrey's first loss of the season - following four draws and a solitary win, achieved against Sussex at the Kia Oval.
