How will the scars heal after Surrey’s failure to stop Nottinghamshire ripping from their grasp not just the 2025 County Championship but also a coveted fourth consecutive title triumph?
Can they heal? Will the wound fester and infect future attempts to rebuild red-ball dominance, or will its hurt drive Surrey’s players and management to yet greater levels of achievement?
“We are gutted that we haven’t won the title again but fair play to Notts,” said Dom Sibley, Surrey’s leading championship run-scorer last summer. "We will come roaring back next season.”
Head coach Gareth Batty, meanwhile, said: “We don’t do regrets, we either win or we learn, and that is what we will do after what was a tremendous match against Nottinghamshire.”
