One of the most encouraging sights for Surrey supporters during the current Rothesay County Championship fixture against Essex came during the lunch interval on day one, and then again an hour or so before play on the final day.

On day one, and as hundreds of supporters strolled around the Kia Oval outfield, as is so wonderfully traditional now during matchday intervals, Dan Worrall was pounding in on one of the practice pitches on the Harleyford Road side of the ground.
