Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Phoebe Franklin proved the star turns as Surrey Women beat League One leaders Hampshire Hawks by six wickets at the Kia Oval to land a psychological blow ahead of Friday’s Vitality Blast Finals Day.
Hampshire still topped the group, with eight wins from their 12 matches, but Surrey qualified in second place - ahead of The Blaze in third - and will be in good spirits as they aim to defend their T20 title following their triumph in the inaugural Blast competition last year.
Surrey captain Bryony Smith will also be pleased her team have begun to sharpen up considerably in the bowling powerplays as their qualifying group campaign moved towards its end. with MacDonald-Gay's devastating opening four-over burst of 3 for 13 helping to reduce Hampshire to 14 for 5.
