Steadily and surely, in the manner of the man himself, Dom Sibley is building a case for an England return that is soon going to be very hard to ignore.
Through sheer weight of runs, and getting on for five years since the last of his 22 Tests, the 30-year-old Surrey opener is – in effect – saying to England’s management: “Can you pass over me any longer?”
Sibley, too, is a much better and more rounded player than when he played Test cricket between November 2019 and August 2021 scoring 1,042 runs at an average just under 29 with two hundreds and five other half-centuries.
