Josh Phillipe has arrived at the Kia Oval charged with powering Surrey into the knockout stages of the Vitality Blast.
The 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman flew in for the restart of the T20 competition, which has been in cold storage – a very enviable place to be during the heatwave – over the past three weeks during a brief midsummer resurgence of domestic first-class cricket.
Ollie Pope could also take over the captaincy from Sam Curran, who is away with England for the T20 international series against India. And, after the disappointing start to the County Championship season, with just one win from their first eight red-ball matches, the resumption of the Blast gives Surrey the perfect opportunity to ignite their summer.
