A sensational innings by Indian batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wrecked England’s hopes of landing the ICC U19 World Cup title.
The opener’s extraordinary 175 from 80 balls – all the more remarkable as he has yet to celebrate his 15th birthday – effectively assured India of victory by 100 runs in the final at Harare.
Yet it should not obscure England’s fine run through the competition, staged in Zimbabwe and Namibia. And Surrey duo Ralphie Albert and Alex French – who made their List A debuts last year in the Metro Bank 50 – both enjoyed successes in the tournament.
Albert, 18, formed a twin-pronged spin attack with Farhan Ahmed, his 10 wickets at 27 making him the second highest wicket-taker in the side, behind Hampshire paceman Manny Lumsden.
