Gareth Batty Column: We turned a corner during one-wicket win against Yorkshire

It was a very good win, especially after the way we had fought back with the ball the previous day when Fish bowled out of his skin, and what makes it all the more satisfying is that we haven’t covered ourselves in glory so far this year, not because of any lack of skills but because of the hunger side of it.

And we can all understand why that has happened. No one is ever going to take away from us our three championship titles in a row, plus the runners-up finish last year when we got so close, but there’s a reason why very few teams even win three titles in a row in the first place and so there has to be a drop-off when you’ve achieved things like that.
