Matt Fisher has been experiencing mixed emotions in the past 48 hours or so, with the joy of an England Test call contrasting with honest self-criticism on his return to Headingley.
Surrey’s former Yorkshire fast bowler took three early wickets as Rory Burns’ side threatened to enjoy the best of the opening day in their Rothesay County Championship meeting on Fisher’s native soil.
But Yorkshire recovered from 121 for four, after Burns had won the toss and put them in, to end day one on a commanding 362 for four – with both Adam Lyth and Jonny Bairstow completing superb hundreds.
