Hero one week, gone the next – well that’s not quite the story of Josh Blake.

Long before the gritty left-hander battled through four and a half hours to see Surrey home against Yorkshire at the Kia Oval, it was known he would be departing at the end of the season.

At 27 he simply has to play regular first team cricket and that is unlikely to happen at Surrey given the current depth of their squad.

A number of counties showed an interest and it seems Leicestershire – although not confirmed – will be the lucky recipients.
