Given Surrey’s patron is the Prince of Wales, it’s surprising how rarely they visit the Principality.

Friday’s match will be their first visit in the Rothesay County Championship to Sophia Gardens since April 2015, a match in which the Kumar Sangakkara announced his arrival in Surrey’s ranks by making 149.

Steven Davies topped that with 200 not out as the visitors amassed 563 for 7 declared, Glamorgan responding with 419 all out and leaving the visitors to bat out time with 207 for 4 declared before everyone mercifully went home.
