If a tumultuous defeat by Somerset appeared to have wrecked Surrey’s hopes of advancement in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, the outlook going into Tuesday’s final qualifying match now looks rather brighter.
While Leicestershire, who have finished their programme, sit top of Group A on 20 points, there is a posse of four teams just below them – Notts Outlaws, Lancashire, Surrey and Kent – all on 16 and separated only by net run rate (NRR).
Northamptonshire, Somerset and Warwickshire are all on 12 and similarly divided by the slide rule. Only Gloucestershire enter the final day without hope, even if for some it is only a tiny one.
