Surrey had a brilliant century from Dan Lawrence to thank for a 34-run first innings lead against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on a third day in which they lost Gus Atkinson to delayed concussion.
Atkinson was hit twice on the helmet by Josh Tongue bouncers and, after initially attempting to bat on and defying Notts for a further 45 minutes, he was forced to retire hurt on 27 feeling unwell and following another on-field check-up. Umpires Ian Blackwell and Nigel Llong had actioned that second break in play, after noticing that Atkinson was struggling.
