Nottinghamshire

Champions for the first time since 2010, there’s no doubting the hunger to keep the title at Trent Bridge. But as Surrey’s director of cricket Alec Stewart warned: “The hunters are now the hunted”. Skipper Haseeb Hameed may attract England’s attention again after his 1,258 runs at 66 last year and Notts will have England’s Ben Duckett available for the opening stretch after changing his mind about playing in the IPL, while Joe Clarke and Jack Haynes have their admirers too. Speedster Josh Tongue, one of England’s few plusses from the Ashes tour, is likely to be heavily involved in the Test side this summer while Mohammad Abbas’s short but successful stay was ended by a move up the A52 to Derbyshire. But Australian seamer Fergus O’Neill, highly successful in the early games, is back for a six-match stint with no shortage of back-up while Farhan Ahmed and Liam Patterson-White make for a well-balanced spin department.
