It’s 11 years since Surrey and Leicestershire last met in a traditional County Championship fixture.
There have been plenty of meetings in List A matches in the past decade and the two teams did play each other in the one-off conference/divisional 'hybrid' Championship of 2021, but apart from that you have to go all the way back to 2015 when both sides were then in Division Two.
The fortunes of the two counties were diverging quickly at that stage – Surrey's two victories over the Foxes that season were a substantial contribution towards topping the second tier and returning to the elite. It was a stepping stone to the dominance of recent times.
