Last winter Matt Fisher made the move from Yorkshire to Surrey. He finished his first season in south London with 31 County Championship wickets and a place in the England Lions squad to Australia - later upgraded to mid-series selection in England's Ashes squad. Fisher made his Yorkshire debut in 2015, winning an England Test cap on the 2022 tour to the West Indies, and Mark Church sat down with Fisher to talk about his first year at Surrey...

MC: Let me take you back a year or so. The announcement was made that you were joining Surrey, so what were your expectations when you first arrived at the club?

MF: I wanted to challenge myself with a new group of players that had won championship titles and try to fit into that group. I wanted to compete in a healthy way with the bowlers that were already here and learn off them. Sitting here now it feels like I achieved that and the only box I did not tick was winning the County Championship title last season. But I think the huge disappointment we felt as a group at not winning the title shows our mentality and how strong we are. Winning a title is not easy and now it is all about bouncing back this year.

MC: You are Yorkshire born and bred, and made your debut for the county when you were fifteen, so how much was the move to Surrey about taking yourself out of your comfort zone and giving yourself a brand-new challenge?
