The best place for me to start in this, my second column for The Rey, is to have a broad overview of the first block of Rothesay County Championship cricket.

In previous years we have been able to start quickly and get more points on the board, but this wasn't to be this season.

Surfaces have been good for batting and difficult for taking wickets. Along the way we've picked up some significant and unfortunate injuries.

Obviously Ben Foakes' side injury was avoidable but, in the cases of Ollie Pope and Gus Atkinson, their injuries were picked up in the heat of battle and both showed great strength of character to stay the course for as long as possible.
