You've heard of the Oscars and the Baftas – meet The Reys, our end of season awards.

Rather than clog up packed cabinets with expensive silver trophies, which might make them the target of burglars, winners get absolutely nothing other than something to tell their incomprehending grandchildren one winter night way into the future.

Batsman of the year – Dan Lawrence:

Beyond the remotest doubt Surrey's outstanding batsman this year. His 982 runs at 65 in the Rothesay County Championship included six centuries – one a double – and against Hampshire in June he was simply sensational, scoring that double-hundred plus another ton in the second innings. Lawrence earned himself a recall to England's Test side, where he looked as good as anyone in difficult batting conditions. And he was added to the ODI squad right at the end of the season, not making it on to the field but at least being saved from two days of chasing leather at Taunton.
