As has long been known within the game, former Zimbabwe batsman Grant Flower has completed his move from Sussex to become Jim Troughton’s successor as Surrey batting coach.

Flower’s arrival comes at a good time with Surrey needing to spend this winter rebooting their squad and their on-field approach following a largely disappointing 2026 season.

He will start his duties on November 1 and his official title is assistant coach, replacing Troughton who announced earlier this year that he would be leaving the Kia Oval at the end of the season to move back to Warwickshire.

Having worked successfully at Sussex in recent years with emerging batsmen such as James Coles, Tom Clark and Tom Haines, the 55-year-old Flower said: “I’m passionate about developing players, helping them reach their full potential and being part of a team that continues to challenge for trophies.”
